Hello beautiful poets! I wanted to clarify the instructions for the Sunflower Tanka Anthology.

Please submit three (3) poems of your choice from the acceptable forms HERE.

We forgot to update the page from last year, and we’ve had questions about the correct count. I apologize for the confusion.

  6. A question to clarify. Do we capitalize the first words in each line of a tanka puente? I notice the example you give does, but you reminded us that tanka poems do not use capitalization.

    1. No, we shouldn’t capitalize the first letter of each line in tanka. I’ll correct that poem. There are some poets who write freestyle poetry and they forget to not capitalize. I try to catch this issue through editing the journal. Thanks for catching that error. 💜
